MATTHEW BENTLEY

Matthew Bentley was born on March 25th, 1996, the second son of Scott and Edith Bentley. Matthew’s parents began attending The Baptist Chapel shortly after his first birthday and officially joined the Baptist Chapel family a few months thereafter. Having been raised in church from infancy, Matthew grew up learning to love the Lord, and at the age of 4, Matthew was telling everyone at the church he wanted to be a preacher. Matthew accepted Christ as his savior at the age of 7 under the ministry of longtime pastor Bro. Norman “Dell” Murphy. However, it was 7 years later during a nightly assembly at a summer youth camp when Matthew came to realize what salvation and baptism were truly all about. The Holy Spirit moved on his heart that night, and he came to realize that although he had accepted the gift of eternal salvation, he had not fully understood his need for salvation until that night. When he returned home he was scripturally baptized and rededicated his life to the Lord. That same week, he made a commitment that he would join the Lord’s ministry, and do his best to serve in any capacity made available to him.  Matthew attended The Baptist Chapel’s school, Jackson Creek Christian Academy from the 2nd grade until 8th grade, where he won 1st Place statewide in the Alabama Christian Education Association’s Old Testament Bible Knowledge competition for three years in a row, then won 1st Place in the ACEA’s Historical Project competition. After graduating from J.C.C.A. he re-entered the public school system his 9th grade year at Alma Bryant High School, where he graduated in 2014 with honors. He currently attends Spring Hill College here in Mobile, Alabama, and is pursuing a degree in Secondary Education and History in order to become a high school history teacher. He has a firm belief that he can use the public school system as a mission field, and hopes the Lord will use him to bring the message of Christ to young people in the classroom. Today, he is the pianist at The Baptist Chapel, and has been for the past 4 years. Although school and work keep him busy throughout the week, he has not lost his yearning to serve the Lord, and he hopes to do just that in every way he can.
